There’s a reason Pilates has quietly become one of the most popular forms of movement for women. And once you experience it, it makes sense.
From busy professionals to new mums, to women simply wanting to feel stronger and more supported in their bodies, Pilates is having a moment.
Globally, the Pilates industry has seen steady growth over the past decade, with millions of people now practicing regularly. And here in Australia, it’s one of the fastest-growing forms of low-impact exercise.
We’re here to celebrate it with World Pilates Day!
What is World Pilates Day?
World Pilates Day happens every year, on the first Saturday in May. It’s a global celebration of the Pilates method and a chance to experience its benefits for yourself.
Held each year, it’s about recognising the role Pilates can play in supporting strength, mobility and overall wellbeing. But beyond that, it’s a reminder that movement doesn’t have to feel punishing to be effective (we’re so here for that!).
Why so many women are turning to Pilates
According to the ClassPass 2025 Look Back Report, Pilates experienced a 66% year-over-year increase, making it the most booked workout globally for the third consecutive year.
So why do so many women choose Pilates?
1. It builds strength without strain
Pilates focuses on controlled, low-impact movement that strengthens the body without placing unnecessary stress on joints.
Research has shown that Pilates can improve core strength, posture and stability, all without the “burnout” feeling that often comes with more intense forms of exercise.
2. It supports your body through different life stages
From pregnancy and postpartum to hormonal shifts and beyond, Pilates is adaptable.
It meets you where you’re at and evolves with you.

3. It helps you feel more connected to your body
Unlike fast-paced workouts, Pilates encourages you to slow down and tune in. Over time, many people notice improved body awareness, coordination and confidence in how they move.
4. It can support mental wellbeing
Movement and mental health are closely linked, and Pilates is no exception.
Studies suggest that mindful forms of movement can help reduce stress and improve overall wellbeing — something many women notice even after just a few sessions.

5. It may help improve sleep and recovery
Quality movement can support better rest.
Pilates helps regulate the nervous system and release physical tension — both important factors in sleep quality.
We’ve shared a few Pilates-based tips to support better sleep here.
6. It’s guided, not guesswork
One of the biggest differences with Pilates is the level of guidance.
Rather than being left to figure things out on your own (like in big fitness classes or at the gym), you’re supported and guided through each movement. This helps you feel more confident and get more from your session.
At The Wellness Boutique, our classes are small and physio-informed, which means we have the capacity to understand your body and guide you accordingly. And while Pilates is widely accessible, it’s worth noting that not all studios offer the same level of individual attention or expertise.

7. It’s something you can actually stick with
Perhaps the most underrated benefit?
People enjoy it.
And when movement feels good (not forced) it becomes something you return to over and over again.
We all know consistency, not intensity, is where real change happens.
